Coordinator, Strategic Public Relations Group (Hong Kong)
“Keep an innovative mindset, strive for improvement”Q: Could you briefly introduce yourself, such as your background before joining the company and your positions then and now?
A: I'm Lonia. My longest tenure has been with SPRG since I graduated. I studied marketing and public relations at university and initially worked for a marketing company for six months. Wanting to fully apply my knowledge, I joined SPRG. I work in the Coordination Team, supporting and assisting with client projects and on-site events like annual general meetings and press conferences. I have always found public relations fascinating, perhaps influenced by TV dramas. Being a PR practitioner sounds really cool!
Q: How do you usually interact with your colleagues?
A: Our team is very team-oriented. We have about a dozen members, each of whom handles different daily tasks and sometimes ad-hoc assignments. If a colleague isn't available, we support each other as needed. Teamwork is crucial, especially for events where half the team attends on-site, while the others handle the day-to-day tasks back at the office. This mutual understanding of each other's work is essential.
Q: Can you tell us about your happiest moment at SPRG?
A: It has to be the company's 30th anniversary breakfast surprise this year. I've been at SPRG for about five years, and since the pandemic hit in my first year here, a lot of big corporate events were cancelled. So, it was such a lovely surprise to see the office decorated with colourful balloons on the first working day of 2025. The company also arranged a 15-minute massage for each of us while we enjoyed the sea view, making it a very relaxing experience.
Q: Is there a project you've worked on that is particularly memorable?
A: I recently assisted AsiaNet in organising the Young Academy of Sciences Summit for their client. We used an online registration system and needed a lot of on-site support during the summit. My team entrusted me with sending out invitations to various schools and organisations and tracking attendance at the event. The summit attracted many participants, giving me a great sense of achievement.
Q: Have you ever been faced with a particularly challenging project? How did you handle it?
A: Our team primarily supports on-site arrangements during events, often interacting with various guests and participants, including shareholders. During a shareholders’ meeting, an elderly shareholder needed to be accompanied by his domestic helper, but security would not allow the helper to enter the venue. We had to coordinate and communicate effectively. Communication is key and fortunately, the process wasn't too difficult and the shareholder appreciated our assistance, which made me very happy.
Q: Is working in a PR firm as busy and stressful as people think? How do you maintain your motivation and passion for the job?
A: I think the workload is manageable. The account team is responsible for communicating with clients and we try to meet their needs within our capabilities, which isn't too stressful. To stay motivated, we need fresh ideas and inspiration. For example, one client had a limited budget but we needed to prepare delicate boutonnieres for guests, so we ended up making them ourselves to meet the client's requirements within the budget. It's essential to keep an innovative mindset, to watch and learn from other companies, and to strive for improvement. For instance, we used to call guests individually to invite them to events, but in recent years, we've implemented a new system of sending emails, and our guests can submit their attendance through the system, making our work more efficient.
Q: Who are you most grateful for in your work?
A: Definitely our boss! Besides the boss, I'm also very grateful to my team members. I feel lucky to work at SPRG with such wonderful colleagues. There was a time when I had to attend to personal matters, and they took over my responsibilities without hesitation, allowing me to leave work without worry. I appreciate their unconditional support and help in solving various problems together.
Q: Do you have any wishes for SPRG's 30th anniversary?
A: I hope the Group continues to thrive and scale new heights!
